Coir Pallets

Pre-vegetated coir pallets

Increase biodiversity and help prevent erosion with pre-vegetated coir pallets.

Forming an instant natural habitat of mature vegetation, coir pallets are an excellent solution to providing ready-made cover for wildlife (often increasing biodiversity by providing habitats for a number of ecologically key species).

Coir in its natural form is found on the husk of coconuts and therefore is completely natural, fully biodegradable and suitable for a host common applications from door mats and rope, to plant pots and brushes.

Applications for coir pallets

Coir pallets are an excellent natural solution for establishing marginal aquatic vegetation in lakes, ponds, rivers and on stream banks.

Furthermore, where water bodies have been created by using artificial methods (such as with synthetic membranes and liners), coir pallets can often be the only way to establish aquatic plants into the water body.

Advantages

▸ Erosion prevention
▸ Stabilisation of eroding banks
▸ Instant refuge for wildlife
▸ Instant biodiversity in artificially lined ponds and lakes
▸ Improved water quality
▸ Floral focal point

How do coir pallets work?

The perfect coir module (pallets or rolls) come with a healthy, vigorous, pre-established root system. This affords the plants the best opportunity to thrive in its new environment, whether it’s floating on the surface as an eco island or nestling into the bank to provide stabilisation.

Planting for coir pallets

Our coir pallets have been planted at the nursery using mature bare-root plants (M.B.R.), provided at a rate of 18/m2 and will be firmly rooted in the coir material.

Coir pallets are available from stock in a variety of planting variations. Generally, the pallets are planted in monocultures of:

➻ Norfolk reed (Phragmites australis)
➻ Greater and Lesser pond sedge (Carex riparia & acutiformis)
➻ Iris (Iris pseudacorus)
➻ Reed Canary grass (Phalaris arundinacea)
➻ Soft rush (Juncus effuses)
➻ Reed sweetgrass (Glyceria maxima)

All stock pallets are planted with native species grown in our Merton nursery and are guaranteed to be of Norfolk provenance.

We can also grow pallets to order – chat to us about your requirements.
