Gabion Wall for Erith at Ebbsfleet Valley, Kent
We were contracted by construction firm Erith to support them with the construction of a wall made from 142 stone gabions, which act as a retaining structure on a steep bank, leading down to a proposed road.
This forms part of a development of private dwellings in Ebbsfleet Valley.
The wall is 52m long and up to 5.5m tall at its highest point. The gabions are filled with 100-200mm Kentish ragstone.
In total, there was approximately 240m2 of facing work to ensure that the baskets look aesthetically pleasing for the long run.
Why use gabion baskets?
Reducing the gradient of slopes as a means of reducing the rate of erosion isn't always feasible; especially in small spaces. Gabion walls are a fantastic solution where steep sides are unavoidable.
Due to their attractiveness, particularly at a low level, gabion walls are often used as retaining walls in garden landscaping. Other uses include all-weather garden furniture, dividing walls, decorative steps, water fountains and more!
